We will offer some simple advice on how to check the engine coolant leak, identify whether there is a coolant leak, and the common causes for engine coolant leaks.
1) It is more accurate to check your engine coolant / antifreeze reservoir when the engine is warm and running. The reservoir is intended to store /overflow the coolant / antifreeze while there is sufficient fluid inside the engine.
2) We recommend owners to check you engine coolant /antifreeze at the beginning of each season, especially when there is significant temperature change.
3) It is normal for minor fluctuation in coolant / antifreeze level from time to time.
4) When do I need professional repair on coolant / antifreeze? The concern is twofold- a) When coolant contaminates engine oil, meaning it has leaked into the combustion chamber, it risks damaging the aluminum pistols; and b) When the leak is severe, it will fail to regulate engine temperature causing it to overheat. As long as the above two are not present and the leak is small, the repair can wait.
5) 3 common parts failing that cause engine coolant / antifreeze leak: a) Radiator cap & reservoir deteriorated and causing leakage. b) leaky hoses c) leaky head gasket or head / block.
